2016 Pantone Color(s) of the Year

Every December the Internet is flooded with retrospective pieces and lists that look back on various “bests” from the previous year: best movies, best books, best TV programs, best songs, and on and on. Instead of focusing on the past, Pantone, the global authority on colors, looks ahead by naming a Color of the Year for the upcoming year. For 2016, they’ve broken with tradition and have chosen not one but two: Rose Quartz & Serenity.

According to the Pantone website, Rose Quartz is described as “a persuasive yet gentle tone” that calls to mind both compassion and composure. Serenity, meanwhile, was selected for its weightlessness and airiness, which helps bring “feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.” These colors pair very nicely together and are thought to have a calming influence on the wearer.
